Middletown Boys Soccer won its first game of the season, 2-0 over the visiting TJ Patriots.

In a taste of the challenging regular season schedule to come, the Knights faced off against a team confident and coming off a strong season-opening tournament.  The Black and Orange had advanced from about 40 minutes of solid effort up to 70 minutes in their opening weekend.  Could they put together 80 mintues of effort, no matter the result, against a talented TJ?  Middletown answered that with a resounding yes!

Defensive headers were won, defensive tackles were won, crosses and shots were blocked and MHS defended proudly as a team.  After a scoreless first half, it was a pair of seniors who would step up and provide the goals the Knights needed.  After the defense did well to stop a transition and defend a corner kick, the Knights were able to break out into the attack with 20 minutes to go.  In a quick transition, Owen Smith sent the ball forward to Logan Doing.  Logan would do all the work from there in the box, shimmying to get open and hitting a lefty shot with too much pace for the goalkeeper to handle--1-0!

Then with 10 minutes to go, a foul in midfield gave the Knights a free kick.  Timmy Kovalchick's ball found Drew Keele for a half-volley blaster that found net--2-0!

From there it was about managing the moment and the team came together to earn the shutout.  Tom Kovudakevych manned the center, with Keele, Nikita Miller, Matthew Barlow, Cooper Fisher, Tyler Michael, Graham Brown, Holden Coblentz and all others putting in great shifts of work!  Goalkeepers Daniel Robison and David Anderson shared the shoutout, each making timely saves.

JV: The MHS JV Boys started their season with a 6-1 defeat to TJ.  Jackson Keele scored in the opening minute of the second half.
