Middletown Boys Soccer fought the conditions and a tough opponent, en route to a 2-2 tie in the conclusion of the Ford/Sheffler tournament. The first half started with the question: Would MHS start as they did the night before or would they have the same intensity as the second half against Manchester Valley?
The answer was clear from the kickoff that the Black and Orange were bringing the intensity. The first half saw MHS come close but end in a 0-0 score. Off the kickoff of the second half was the same desire, and it paid off with a goal 8 minutes into half two. Great work by Bryce Martin and an excellent pass sent Owen Smith in 1v1 on the goalkeeper. A nice finish later and it was 1-0! There would be more pressure from Martin later in the half which forced a turnover. Logan Doing took an excellent one-timer to put it over the keeper and in--2-0! Century was not to be denied and they turned up the intensity, scoring twice late to force the tie.
In the penalty kick shootout, Century won 4-3. Tyler Michael, Patrick Beckman and Drew Keele converted for the Knights. Eli Flores made one PK save for MHS. As a result of the shootout win, Century moved into second place in the tournament, which was won by Manchester Valley. Middletown finished third and Walkersville fourth. Up next for MHS is a home match against Frederick on Tuesday evening. Go Knights!
