When did Middletown High School become the Knights?
Information obtained regarding this question came from copies of The Spotlight, which was the school newspaper at that time. Through much research, John Horine was able to uncover the history of the Knights.
In the February 1956 issue under News Here & There was the paragraph: "As of now, the Middletown High School teams have no name. The Student Council is interested in giving them a title. A suggestion box will be placed in the hall for all to benefit of anyone having an idea as to what the teams might be called. It asked that the name be suitable for all teams, appropriate for the school, and also simple for the use in cheers."
In the April 1956 issue was this follow-up article:
"Knights" and "Valleyettes" Chosen as names for MHS teams.
"Knights" and "Valleyettes" were the names chosen for the boys' and girls' basketball teams at Middletown High School.
Thanks to John Horine for the above information.
